For two days in a row in October 2012, the Today programme featured two all-male panels discussing female issues (to be precise, female bodies). For the founders of The Women's Room, this was the final straw. We knew that there were great women experts the BBC could have found to discuss breast cancer and teenage girls' contraception; they just weren't trying hard enough - if at all. So we decided to do their job for them and set up a database of female experts who were available to talk to the media on every topic imaginable. We've received great press coverage, including in The Observer, The Guardian - hereand here, the Evening Standard, the New Statesman, Broadcast Magazine, and most recently, The Huffington Post. To date we have over 1600 women signed up with specialisms ranging from Astrophysics to Sexuality, but we are always looking for more great women with knowledge and a passion to share it, that the big media organisations are ignoring. If this sounds like you, sign up at The Women's Room. We look forward to your entries!
