Skates Wanted

Hi all

We often have people looking to borrow skates for the first few times they come along to Drop-in and we don't have very many pairs available.

Do you have any old skates at home you'd consider donating to the league? Or if not whole pairs, any parts are welcome too, including wheels.

Also, if you're out and about and see some skates going cheap, Drop-in has a (small) budget too i.e. in charity shops, car boot sales etc.

Just like to add that we're not necessarily after derby style skates here, pretty much any quads will do for people who want to give skating a try, as long as they're safe.

I have my old Volts at home still (first skates, awww!). I'm never going to need them again but I seem to remember the axles are loose*, which made changing the wheels really tricky because they spun in the sockets. They're not unsafe (once the wheels are on they're sturdy) but they're very fiddly to change the wheels on - would they still be useful or not?

*They're not moveable with bare hands 'loose', more that if the nuts are too tight you'll need pliers to hold the other side of the axle to get them off...

I'm sure we could make some use of them, I doubt there will be much wheel changing going on.

I have some size 7/8 very basic skates i can bring in for you - got the from a car boot for £2!

We keep a couple of pairs of skates and sets of pads and helmets at Ashton and then generally borrow bits from WW and return them when we're done. We don't have a lot of room at Ashton to keep an awful lot there.

So don't worry about labelling anything, especially as Drop-in is now part of the league.

Also, you don't have to permanently give things to the league if you want them back at some point!
