Wanting to beat my own 10-lap time, I went on to look at how fast people can go...

Here I copy from another forum:

Given that the centre line track distance is 58.52 meters

To do 25 in 5 you need to be averaging 4.876 meters per second or 11 MPH.

To do 30 in 5 you need to be averaging 5.852 meters per second or 13.09 MPH.

A few people have asked me how far I thought it was around a track so as above the centre line measures 58.52 Meters and if any one is doing the roller marathon 26 miles is 715 centre line laps of a standard track.

So, basically, to pass the speed test you have to be averaging 11mph?! Wow, glad I didn't know that at the time...

You want to do this on the Thornbury hall floor, I swear I'm twice as fast on that floor than Withywood. Brawly, me and Jam Tart can time you, and help you, she did that with me in preperation for my 25 laps.

BTW, we are also skating in the bowls hall in Thornbury now, its much stickier, but smooth (brand new floor) so if you don't see anyone in the main hall, ask! :)

But not tonight, cos I'm completely knackered from the weekend, and I should'nt have sat down, cos I don't want to get up and cook tea now :/

I think Becky is going though.

See you next week! :D

I'll be there - but not sure if we are in the bowls hall tonight... something about a risk assessment!

Ah, that's cos someone fell while skating on the old floor & broke their leg.

Brawly you'll be fine - and remember if you don't get it first time, try try try again!! I think I did it 5 or 6 times...

Brawly it took me I think 7 attempts? Couldn't get it for so long literally thought I never would, then had a REALLLLY useful lesson from Katie about crossing over all the way round and how to skate the track and then when I passed with 26 1/2 laps it seemed easy and I wasn't even knackered when we stopped! so, in short, keep at it you WILL pass it, take it from me!

I almost always cross over now, unless I'm going really slow then I push but I do it so rarely it feels weird now!, I tend to cross over the straights and cruise the curves on a regular skate, so I think cross overs are where it's at, ha, if you do them alllll the time and get used to them being your main movement I think you'll get it down.

And don't give up, we have faith in you!

BB x
