2014 Ruleset Sessions

Postby Chick Dastardly » 20 Mar 2014, 19:48

This is posted in the public section as it's open to all BRD members and Drop In Derby skaters, and I don't want to confuse things by having two threads about the same thing going on unless completely necessary!

Rules Sessions:
1: Main changes in 2014 ruleset
2: The game and skaters, penalty enforcement
3: The pack and contact penalties
4: Non contact penalties and Scoring

Session 1 is geared towards any skater who has skated / learnt the 2013 ruleset and feels they would benefit from a session dedicated to the main impact of changes that came in with the 2014 ruleset.
Sessions 2-4 are geared more towards skaters who are pre/newly passed min skills OR feel that they would benefit from a refresher course about the 2014 ruleset. Sessions will cover rules and explanations, along with using tactic/strategy explanations in order to put the rules into the context of gameplay.

IN ALL CASES:
Make sure you read the section of the rules that applies to that session *before* the start of the session. Do come prepared with questions if you have any. Sessions will be kept to an hour (to avoid Rule Fatigue :) ) but there will be time for questions and discussion afterwards if people choose to stick around after 8:30pm.

LOCATION:
The Robin Hood on St Michaels Hill

TIME: 7:30 - 8:30 pm

WHEN:
Session 1: Tues April 8th
Session 2: Tues April 15th
(no session on Tues April 22nd)
Session 3: Tues April 29th
Session 4: Tues May 6th

(The links won't work for people not currently BRD members, as they go to a calendar only viewable by current members. However, there's no additional information there other than attendance tracking. If you are a Drop In skater rather than a full BRD member, just register your interest on this thread so that we have an idea of how many people to expect)

I fully expect coaches to be less inclined to answer basic rules questions if there has been a chance to attend sessions such as these, so if you are hazy on rules, attend these sessions or start doing some serious homework! :D

Any questions - ask away!

Also would be a good idea for all B's to come if possible as we may learn something vital before the tournament starts!

I've put my name down to come along tonight, but not sure if I will make the train from W-s-M in time. Really hoping to though.

Thanks Chick for hosting another rules session tonight :)

For those of you who were there to hear about pack definition, here is a good example straight off the first jam. Watch Bay Area in black and how they maintain the jammer at the back without splitting the pack, there is always someone who realises they should move up to avoid the no pack call which allows the other blockers to continue holding the jammer.

(I meant jam 4 actually about 8 minutes in :))

Last rules session is this Tuesday May the 6th, I will be covering for Chick and we will be talking about non contact penalties and scoring, so if you want to know all about cut tracks and how a blocker can be worth more than 1 point come along! :)

Upstairs at the Robin Hood on St. Michael's Hill, 7.30-8.30. There isn't any food there but they do have beer :)
