House chores, we all have to do them and it sometimes feels like we're just wasting a lot of precious time which would be better spent on skates or at the very least endlessly shopping for Derby gear on the Net.
The end of the tunnel is in sight! Plug your MP3 player / iPod into your computer and download the podcasts from Derby Deeds! Tah dah, lots of very interesting news and discussions about Derby right into your ears while washing-up or hoovering the house! I listened to Episode 40 about Men Derby and it was a VERY interesting debate even for girls. I also listened to Episode 41 where the London Rockin Rollers where interviewed (it's an American show: everything is awesome and rad).http://derbydeeds.com/
For those who don't know about podcasts: podcast is just like a radio show, but in an MP3 format meaning you can listen whenever you want, pause, scroll back, listen again, keep it for life, just like a regular MP3 song!
To get your podcasts downloaded automatically onto your hard-drive, you have to subscribe to it (it's free!) so your computer knows what to go and grab.
If you go to the Derby Deeds page there is a RSS icon on the top right corner which takes you here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/derbydeeds/Bnhv
- if you're using iTunes, click on the iTunes link in the Subscribe now! box. I believe you should be guided through the next steps from iTunes (I don't use iTunes personally)
- if you don't have iTunes and your computer is Windows or Linux, you've got to have a programme, a podcast receiver that you will open every time you want your computer to download the podcast for you (Derby Deeds episode are weekly). I've used Juice on Windowshttp://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/
and now I use Gpodder on Linuxhttp://gpodder.org/
Once this programme is on your computer, open it, look for "subcribe to new feed" or similar mention and copy this link in the box:http://feeds.feedburner.com/derbydeeds/Bnhv
Then you can click on the "check for new podcasts" or "download new podcasts" (or similar mention) and the Derby deeds podcasts will download themselves on your hard-drive. Most likely somewhere in your documents, you can specify where to put it, if you want.
After that, it's the good ol'well known pick, drag and drop the Derby Deeds MP3 file onto your MP3 player / iPod. Enjoy!
Sounds complicated but it really isn't. The set up involves downloading a programme if you don't have iTunes but then, it's easy-peasy. Shout if you need help.
