Bearings - lube!

Hiya

Indoor wheels just arrived - does anyone know if these bearings are pre lubricated or not?

Your bearings when bought new should come pre-lubed! You can usually tell if they move smoothly when you spin them, no sounds of metal-on-metal. If you've bought lube too it doesn't hurt just to give them a single drop and then spin them a couple of times. It will seem like they spin slower but this is just the lube working it's way around, that's why you should never use too much!

A few quick points about lubing your bearings:

NEVER lubricate when they are dirty, this just makes things worse!

ALWAYS dry bearings completely after cleaning them to avoid rust, then lubricate IMMEDIATELY.

I can do a complete breakdown on cleaning bearings etc... and do a practical with anyone who has a good space that they don't mind getting a little messy ^_^

That would be really useful thanks! I think I will put a drop in, just to see how they come apart and stuff.

I have large (non carpeted) living room, will happily offer the space for a wheels/bearings practical :)

Yes please! I know my wheels are defiantely slower than they used to be, so think they could do with a good servicing.

i love the idea of a workshop... maybe at some point this could also be combined with the idea of meeting and trying each other's skates (might build up the numbers). : )

I use a citrus cleaner/degreaser which is the same stuff they use to clean bike chains.

For lubricant I use Bones Speed Cream, about 4 quid from Rollermania and that small bottle will last for AGES.
