Anyone know about Vanilla skates?

Postby Winged Nut » 09 Dec 2011, 10:50

So I think I like the look of these skates:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0769888263

But I haven't really heard much about Vanilla skates, and my attempts at searching for reviews just seems to bring up the PR blurb for the skates over and over...
Does anyone have any comment/info? Think my budget is going to be £200-£250, so if anyone knows of a better skate for that price I'd love to hear what you think. I think I have fairly 'normal' feet (not particularly narrow, not wide either!) and am a size 8.

Thanks :D

I looked into these at some point and here's a selection of comments from Skatelog forum which I'd saved:

Vanilla
I love my Vanillas. My Vanilla curves feel wider to me than my Vanilla brass knuckles. I like em both a lot.
If you have flat fred flintsone feet Vanilla might be a good choice. My son has those feet and Vanillas are the only skate that fits him well right out of the box.

THIS. I also have freakishly wide, flat feet for a woman. Size 5.5 EE (I guess.)
I had a custom pair of 265s in EE width and those things still made my feet cry in agony. Hideous. But I've come to the conclusion I'm not made for skates that lace to the toe.

My Vanilla Brass Knuckles fit out of the box. No break in, not a single blister, hot spot, nothing. They're my miracle skates. Light as anything too. I would have another pair in a heartbeat.

Yep they're definitely a vast improvement on my old skates, and the plates give me much more manouvreability (hopefully will improve my transitions :D )
Am getting used to the fact the plate is mounted slightly further forward than my old ones, because of that I have been falling on my bum a lot since changing to the new ones!(thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it  )
The skates are a really good fit, they are narrower in the heel and wider in the foot - which seems just right for my feet.

I suppose it's just a case of seeing how I go with them, but I'm impressed so far.
