Yet another Wheel/Bearing Question

Postby Mimi K » 06 Feb 2013, 20:34

So I took my bearings out to give them a clean, turns out I have two bearings in each wheel - is that normal?
Well I accidently lost all 8 of the chunks of metal between each bearing in each wheel (don't even ask how I managed to lose them!!)
I was just wondering, can I skate without this middle bit? Or do I even need two bearings? And if I take a bearing out each wheel, the nut that holds the wheel on doesn't go tight enough, there's not enough thread..
I'm confused haha!

Yes you need two bearings in each wheel :) .

The metal bit between them is called a spacer and there are debates about whether or not there is a point to them by people who are much more knowledgeable about engineering type things than me :). I don't use them and things seem be okay, but freely admit that I don't know what I'm talking about.

There was a really good discussion on the UK Derby Dialogue Facebook page all about spacers (just use the search box in the top right hand corner to find it).
